Learning Management System (LMS)

The SCTE has moved its education into different areas such as training books, courses, PDF files and, now, into a Learning Management System (LMS). This opens the student to different stimuli, through the text on the screen, videos, sound, clicking on information; all of these move the student towards a range of different learning approaches.

LMS provides consistency, tracking and reporting, engaging course? and gamification. Centralising the knowledge into one area allows consistency.

There are also a range of other benefits and advantages offered by LMS. The course content can be kept up to date and any change in the course content can be implemented immediately. Books are static and require a reprint. All a student needs is access to the internet to download a course. An email is all that is needed to enable the student to start the course.

LMS also offers cost savings. Sending students into a classroom costs time and money with the student restricted to the classroom for the duration of the course. The LMS allows a student to fit training into his/her schedule and take the course when time allows. Engineers are mobile and need to be in different locations throughout the day; some tasks can be finished quickly and the engineer or student can then resume the training course, for a more efficient approach.

Who uses the LMS?

The LMS is easy to use, requires no advance training and is quickly accessible.

Any person or, organisation, focusing on learning and development, can use the LMS. LMS keeps the focus on the deployment of training and development and keeps the organisation ahead of competition and the workforce ahead of competitors.

Schools, colleges and universities can also benefit from LMS as this opens the mobile phone, the tablet or the computer as a library and retention vessel for knowledge.

What can an LMS do?

An LMS is used to create courses and examinations and to track the progress of the learners. It can also be used to export reports; invite users; hand out certificates and integrate with a range of other tools, making it a seamless addition to any organisation.
